Inlays/Onlays & Crowns
A dental crown/inlay/only is a restoration which is used if a tooth is broken or has a large cavity which is threatening the ongoing health of the tooth. These restorations improve the appearance and strength of the teeth. At Wisdom Dental we offer ‘Cerec’. Cerec restorations have the added advantage of being fitted in one appointment with no need to temporise.

What is a crown/inlay/onlay?
A crown is a restoration that fits over the remaining part of the tooth, making it resilient and enhancing the aesthetics and strength of the tooth. Inlays and onlays are porcelain restorations used when there is more remaining tooth structure but it is insufficient structure to support a filling. Crowns/inlays/on-lays can be made of a variety of different materials including ceramic porcelain gold or metal alloys.
The ‘Cerec’ is a very natural looking aesthetic durable restoration, which is made on site and fitted in one appointment.

What are the reasons for having a dental crown/inlay/onlay?
Crowns/inlays/onlays are used to restore cracked, broken and worn down teeth or fillings. They are also used to replace discoloured teeth or fillings. Crowns can be used after root canal treatment or to cover an implant.
What is the procedure of a crown/inlay/onlay?
The damaged tooth is first prepared and an impression is then taken. The impression and decided shade is then sent off to the dental laboratory. The process can take up to 2 weeks and a temporary crown will be fitted while the permanent crown is being made.
