Dental implants have been available for many years. Recent scientific studies show that the long term success with implants is extremely high. Dental implants are a very advantageous treatment option as they do not involve using neighbouring teeth, as required for bridges & they are fixed into the mouth unlike dentures.

Examples of implant work
What is an implant?
Implants are the most effective long lasting way of replacing missing teeth. They do not involve the neighbouring teeth and act independently, similar to a natural tooth root.
In most cases, we can remove the failing tooth and place the implant immediately, to preserve as much of the bone as possible.
If you have limited bone or a large sinus, rest assured that we undertake a wide range of bone grafting procedures, including sinus lifts, to ensure we can manage even the most complex of cases here at Wisdom Dental.
If you require full arch treatment (where you have lost, or are soon to lose, all your teeth) we can usually provide an instant transformational treatment for you as part of our Same Day Teeth service. Implants will be placed, and our skilled technician will prepare the teeth to fix on to them immediately (prior to this you would be seen for a number of short preparatory sessions).
Would implants be right for me?
To help you decide whether implants are right for you, we would recommend you book a consultation with us at our dental clinic in Acton. This will include an in depth discussion of all your options and a customised treatment plan according to your health needs. Our team will be happy to help with any questions you may have.
What is the reason for an implant?
To replace teeth lost as a result of;
- tooth decay
- gum disease
- injury or trauma
Dental implants may not be an ideal option if;
- There is Insufficient bone levels.
- Periodontal disease
- The patient is a smoker
- The patient has immunocompromised health
However we can work around these situations in most cases.
What is the procedure?
The initial assessment is made and a CT scan may be required to assess the suitability for an implant. The first stage, a dental implant which is a small titanium component is placed gently into the jaw and allowed time to heal. After the implant is placed, it slowly integrates with the bone, this is called Osseointegration. The second stage, is when the replacement teeth are attached to the implant. In some cases, it is possible to attach the replacement teeth at the time of fitting the implant, without waiting for time to heal. If several teeth are missing, an implant bridge can be made.
Dental implants are a long term solution. However, they do need to be looked after like any other dental restoration as they can still be damaged by trauma and poor oral hygiene.
